Why Your Child Should See An Eye Doctor

The importance of your child’s eye care

We often get asked the question of why should my child see the eye doctor if they got an eye exam in school or by their Pediatrician. If I know my child can see well, what is there to check out? The answer is a lot. Our New York City and Roslyn Eye Doctors specialize in pediatric eye care. We will give your child a much more thorough eye exam than they would get in school.

Learning is 80% visual so it’s vital that your child can see properly in every aspect. Not only will we check for distance, we will also check the following:

  • Near and farsight – see if your child has an issue seeing at a distance or up close.
  • Binocular Vision/Fusion – do the eyes work together or do they drift apart? Is there eye coordination? If not, they may have Binocular Vision Dysfunction
  • Focusing skills – can the eyes focus on items near and far
  • Lazy eye – making sure one eye isn’t dragging when the other is moving

Making sure that everything is working properly with the eyes can mean everything to the development of your child. Give us a call to schedule an eye exam for your child.
